For the main bathroom, Adanya and Moshe found (via Craigslist) and refurbished a vintage clawfood tub and sink.

“The tent-like shape resembles a mountain. When the snow falls, the triangle becomes embedded in the landscape,” Tham says.

Suzanne’s bridge and book clubs meet around the dining table in the cottage instead of in the larger house, whose open layout makes such gatherings problematic. “There was no place where I could seal us off,” Suzanne says. “So now I use the cottage for game playing, and we can enjoy ourselves and know that we’re not inconveniencing Brooks.”

Built-in cabinetry beneath the staircase provides extra storage space for the 1,024-square-foot home.

The bathroom features a custom concrete sink from Caesarstone and a vanity base from Ikea accented with customized panels.

The kitchen is located toward the back of the house and features high-end appliances, custom cabinetry, and soothing green tile work which pops against the gold hardware.

Automated glass panels in the roof open and close to regulate the temperature inside the greenhouse and core home and protect against common garden pests, heavy wind, and snow. “The glass is UV-protected, so you don’t have to worry about burning,” Roja says.

On a rocky bank, Hebra Arquitectos builds a breezy home that opens wide to nature.

“Stepping through the bridge is like going through a portal in time,” says architect Miguel Rivera. “The space opens up, and you find yourself in a brightly lit living and dining room with gray porcelain tile floors and floor-to-ceiling windows that contrast with the punched openings of the bungalow.”

The dining room table is a custom creation made by the client from a single slab of myrtle wood. Just inside the back entrance is a built-in cabinet crafted from the same source slab, creating a feeling of connection and flow throughout the interior.

Light from a new skylight pours into the home's entryway and living room. Steel columns and beams were added for structural reinforcement, and the couple left all beams, old and new, exposed.

In the office, existing track lighting illuminates cabinetry covered in Lemon Bar by Miller Paint.

Now, an eight-foot sliding door brings light into the kitchen and enables fluid movement between inside and out. The wider steps can serve as seats during a party, and they make for a graceful transition to the yard.
