Tom wanted to limit the number of joints in the vaults between the concrete pours, so they ended up building framework for each of the lengths of the vaults.
"The solid oak floor is like its own piece of horizontal furniture, blending perfectly with the natural feel, as the soft oak planks flow together throughout the entire apartment,” says Vibeke Jenssen.

Cabinetry maker Forest Designs used birch plywood to craft the U-shaped kitchen island, which is topped with quartz from Floform. The Ziro floor tiles in Gris are from Navarti and the contemporary metal edge pulls are from Richelieu. The appliances are from Whirlpool.

Glacier boulders and granite outcroppings are integrated into the design. Here, the home’s silvery exterior matches rock formations. Firewood stacks beneath an overhang framing the entry.
Painted aluminum roofs mirror colors from the sky and sea, while vertical cedar slats create a subtle corduroy texture.
In the living room, walls painted Sherwin Williams Snowbound and white oak floors balance warmth and light. Large, matching windows frame the ocean and forest.
Edwin and Cynthia, a couple from Virginia, built a cabin on Isle au Haut in Maine comprising a series of small shed-roofed cabins connected by decking.
“The curved shower is something I’d seen in Australia while camping—there were these cylinders outfitted with showers, all outdoors,” says Facundo. “Slowly I’m becoming friendlier with curves—I never used to do curves.”

Beams of morning sunlight fill the living area thanks to tall windows that run the length of the room.
In the living area, a long length of built-in storage doubles as a bench.
The entire design team worked with the clients and their children to populate the green roof with mosses and grasses harvested from nearby, which they planted with groupings of sedums and other native plants.
A custom maple table by Duff & Co. serves as a work-from-home hub or a place for the family to gather around and work on a puzzle—that isn't the kitchen table. The south-facing nook gets plenty of natural light, even on the gloomiest of Pacific Northwest days.
In the living room, corner glazing helps blur the line between inside and out. The sofa is by Minotti and the coffee table is by Jake Szymanski. The lounge chair is Finn Juhl.
