"Since the living space on the first storey is separated from the bathroom by a staircase, the bathroom has no door and is connected to the living space as one space in a cross-section," says Sudo.

The bathroom is elevated for privacy but offers nice views through large windows.

"The low floor with the outside makes moving equipment into the house easy, says Momono. “We often do television shoots at home, and the crew that comes thought the kitchen would be prefect for filming. We decided to do a cooking shoot in our house and ended up filming an overnight stay at a farmhouse!”

Now a gorgeous vanity set-up steals the show, with the sink and taps, both from Rogerseller, mounted on an over-sized mirror layered over wood shelving. The light is the MegaBulb pendant from Great Dane.

The living room’s wood-burning fireplace has a concrete hearth that wraps the chimney and runs under the windows, acting as seating, a plant ledge, and creating a spot to store logs, all of which are harvested from the site.

The original bathroom was spartan and industrial, with little more than a cheap shower, sink, and toilet. Hanna and Sims updated it for a clean, modern look.

The master bedroom is now a sophisticated retreat with a meaningful connection to the backyard. A Ted Boerner bed purchased at San Francisco’s HEWN rests atop a Rug Company rug.

The cottage is located on a site just over an hour from Gothenburg and two-and-a-half hours from Oslo, Bohuslän was the ideal location. “We immediately fell in love with the slightly hilly site and its location along a narrow dirt road with cows grazing on the other side,” says Helena. “Until then, I had never thought of building a summer house but when we got the chance, we just had to take it. Especially when my old friend Susanna said she could design a house for us.”

At 700 square feet, Chris and Ady's cottage had to make economical use of space—like the bar-height dining table doubling as a cooking countertop.

The backsplash is made of large cement tiles that were sawed into smaller pieces and rearranged to give a mottled look. An appliance garage hides the "non-sexy things you want to put away," laughs Andrew—the blender, the toaster, and so on.

LED lighting playfully highlights the zig-zag form created where the timber stairs met the wall.

The kitchen countertops, made of Silestone Eternal Calacatta Gold, extend into the winter garden. An Eero Saarinen dining table is paired with plastic side chairs by Charles and Ray Eames.

The kitchen cabinetry was designed by Barry’s firm, Archimania, and fabricated by Warren Construction.
