After trying a few different living room configurations, Liu and Krasnokutskaya moved their sitting area close to the window to maximize light and views of the park.

Liu built a lot of the furniture in the apartment, including the bedroom’s sewing table, by finishing and attaching plywood surfaces to simple metal legs. The couple share a large standing desk in the living room, another DIY piece. “Designing our home so it is a nice place to work, as opposed to a desk in the corner, was a really intentional move for us,” Liu said.

The hanging above the sofa is from M.A. Estudio, a Mexico-based collaborative project.

Custom cherry veneer cabinetry was designed and installed “to the very smallest inch in terms of tolerance,” Siqueira said.

Toni the tabby cat makes himself at home in the living room, where the collection of “pandemic plants” has grown since the couple moved from their smaller apartment in Brooklyn Heights.

Ackerman’s guitars, including a Santiago-sized instrument, are displayed on a wall. He and Siqueira, who’s learning guitar, play and sing together almost every day.

The square green tiles in the bathroom are the same ones architect David Bench used in his own apartment.

Sliding glass doors and a deck connect the minimalist dwelling to the lush backyard with a giant oak tree. The structure, known as Menlo Park Connect2, was built by Connect Homes.
