Buff & Hensman remodel, here we used a La Pietra Compattata Cromie brick tile (upcycled from wastes of stonequarry productions) to compose the hearth and frame the fireplace center piece.

Marble mosaic flooring from New Ravenna covers the floor and runs over the bench under the window, another spot for Charlie and Todd’s young daughter to perch. The walls are glazed American quarry tile by Design and Direct Source.

A new, sweeping plaster form flows around the fireplace, elongating the mantel and creating display shelves in a previously unused alcove. The convex tile treatment composed of Clé tile provides a rich contrast with the plaster, and the new hearth is marble.

The couple added curved cabinetry and a window seat to form a breakfast nook, painted in Farrow & Ball Red Earth. The table is discontinued from Anthropologie, where Kara previously worked as a display coordinator, and the overhead light is the Lambert & Fils Waldorf Double.

An arched opening was added to connect the kitchen and breakfast nook, and gain sightlines to the yard. Seamus refinished the fireplace mantle and added square zellige Zia tile in ‘Nana’s Lipstick’ to the surround. Gubi Semi Pendants hang over the island, and the sink has a Devol Ionian Bridge Tap.

Farrow & Ball French Gray covers the kitchen cabinetry, fabricated by Toulouse St. Millwork, walls, ceiling, and stove hood. The counters are Arabescato honed marble.

The new powder room has Blackthorn wallpaper from Morris & Co, which was chosen for how its green and pink palette “bridges” the other spaces in the home, says Kara. Beckham Double Sconces from Visual Comfort flank a Tufa Modern Mirror from Scout and Nimble, over a marble sink.

The wet bar was given a custom cherry top, and the couple added wall molding for texture.

Porcelain, ceramic, and marble tiles were used in the bathrooms for durability and design aesthetics. Brushed gold accents were incorporated into the bathrooms with the faucets, light fixtures, accessories, and Schluter trim pieces.

McDougall re-envisioned the home's original double-sided fireplace. Today they're wrapped in black shiplap and tile to create a visual anchor in the home.

The kitchen features seamless counter-to-ceiling Calcutta quartz surfaces as well as a Bosch fridge.

The backsplash by Z Collection offers an organic touch to the light-flooded space that looks onto the back garden.

McDougall designed an entertainer's kitchen in what was formerly the dining room. Under-counter beverage drawers by Fisher & Paykel.

Interior designer Kelly McDougall honored the home's mid-century architecture while updating it with a "moody modern" aesthetic.

Risa Boyer Architecture helped with a strategic remodel that targeted specific areas, such as the main living spaces, staircase, and primary suite. The kitchen was expanded to overtake an existing eating nook, and better connected to the dining room and living room.

Custom rift-sawn white oak cabinetry now packs a lot of storage and creates a serene backdrop in the open plan.

One of Brooke’s favorite spots in the home were the corner windows in the eating nook. Now the light from those can spread to the rest of the plan. Honed limestone covers the counters. “You can see some of the shells and other things that have been pressed into the stone,” says Brooke. “They have a really beautiful patina.”

Brooke and Tobi found the dining table on Craigslist, from a Eugene carpenter who specializes in refinishing vintage furniture. The chairs and light are vintage, and the white oak banquette is designed by Boyer, with Brooke’s love of the Audo hotel for inspiration. “They have a dining area that has an insert in the back of the dining bench to lean photos and pictures,” says Brooke.
