The final, layered look of the pool and its surroundings—which mitigates a 30-inch drop from house to guesthouse—was completed in 2008.

The home's courtyard originally featured a green lawn where guests could watch films and entertainers on a stage.

By changing the roofline, Beebe Skidmore introduced light and usable space to the third floor. "It was not a lot of extra space, but we got headroom," explains Beebe.

The porch now serves as a master bath with a deep soaking tub.
