On a garden plot they lease just 20 minutes from their apartment in Warsaw, Poland, Magda Grabowska-Wacławek and Grzegorz Wacławek built a tiny house in a striking red-blue colorway.

The living space includes a Stuv woodburning stove. To balance the raw hemlock, Braithwaite customized industrial touches like Edison-bulb light fixtures that suspend at varying heights on fabric wire.

The dwelling is positioned along on the eastern coast of Nova Scotia. According to Braithwaite, the two elevated volumes offer a bird’s-eye view of the area’s trails and surrounding forest.

“Barbecue season never ends,” says Liz, explaining how they live with such a small kitchenette. “We even made a cake out there.”

Poured-in-place concrete counters complement rift cut white oak flooring and cabinetry in the kitchen.

While Nigel and Jane originally were considering blue kitchen cabinets, they instead opted for a big blue Aga range. “I’m so glad we did. It makes the range much more of a feature,” says Jane.

Inside the former caretaker’s cottage, eclectic furnishings and art belong to Naeem and Bethan’s current tenants, Verena Phipps and Steve Coomans.

A family chose MyCabin to construct prefab structures in their home country of Latvia. The prefab structures have space for work, sleep, and relaxation.

The home features a combination of interior and exterior living spaces that afford privacy to the occupants. “There are social spaces for everyone to be together, but also spots outside the building where people can have a private coffee—and that’s so important,” says architect Line Solgaard.

The home is perched lightly on the site and the landscape has been integrated into the architecture through a sympathetic form and materiality, and the expansive windows. “We long for this untouched nature,” says architect Line Solgaard of the site. “It brings us calmness and maybe even helps us be more in touch with ourselves.”

The furniture throughout the summer home is custom made to perfectly fit the compact interior. “Because the space is so small, you have to think of it as like a sailing boat and it has to be as smart as possible,” says architect Line Solgaard. “If we bought furniture it would be too big or take focus away from the architecture. The furniture we designed is integrated into the building.”
