The Lin Pendant by Muhly hangs over the island. The counters and backsplash are concrete.

Inspired by a vintage Swedish design book, Ann gave the fireplace an asymmetrical shape and plaster finish, and the interior was rebuilt. The wood coffee table is by Muhly, and the metal one a vintage piece that Ann found later on, purchasing because she got a kick out of the similarities between them. "It made me laugh,

The ground floor material palette features polished concrete floors and lime washed walls.

The "appliance garage

By far the biggest transformation, the new kitchen enjoys high ceilings from the revamped roofline; all new casework, flooring, and finishes; and a large island. The stools are from 2xhome.

The standing lamp is from Lightology, while the lounge chair and sideboard are both from Arhaus.

Carlos and Whitney changed all the windows, opting for replacements made by All Weather Architectural Aluminum featuring line detailing that infuses the home with the Spanish hacienda feeling they desired. In the family room, the windows are accented by curtains from Nordic Knots.

The kitchen island, which is from Reform, is accented with custom bar stools.

Double fir rafters encase steel flitch plates, allowing for long spans of open space. Hemlock ceilings layer above, bringing warmth to the inside.

The kitchen's white oak cabinetry was given oval-shaped brass handles from CB2.

All the new built-in cabinetry floats a few inches off the ground and below the ceiling, adding light and shadow, so as not to make the 715-square-foot apartment feel confining.

The new den's rebuilt fireplace is clad with the same Heath Ceramics tile as the kitchen island. Avove it is a Christopher Wrobleski rope hanging. A vintage Hans Wegner chair with Maharam leather cushions was paired with a Lawson Fenning San Rafael Paolo coffee table.

The relocated kitchen includes Villa Lagoon concrete floor tiles, Heath Ceramics island tiles, Schoolhouse Electric pendant lights and Design Within Reach Valencia stools.

The new kitchen's sink (with a California Faucet fixture) and Corian counter open through operable La Cantina windows onto the pool area and an outdoor extension of the counter. Just beyond, David and Laurie's son Asher takes a plunge.
