The new cabins' pine interiors have been left their natural shade. Furnishings are kept to the absolute minimum to keep guests' focus on what lies outside.

The two new cabins, also by Jensen & Skodvin Architects, are built on a steep hillside. They are held aloft by narrow steel rods and clad in a lumber stained to blend into the natural surroundings.

The new wooden staircase is steeper and therefore shorter and, as a result, doesn't create such a large a barrier between kitchen and living room.

The staircase is the central feature of the open-plan duplex apartment.

Owner Kristine likes to spend her weekend mornings in the kitchen, under the skylight.

“The curtain allows the space to be opened up or closed off in all kinds of different ways, and gives it more warmth and better sound-proofing,” says Vibeke.

Kristine's Steinway piano was brough to Sweden from Germany in 1917 and used to belong to her grandmother.
