In the Orient, New York, home of Keith Scott Morton and Christine Churchill, a double-height living/dining area hugs the broadly glazed west elevation.

The Ki cabins, which is named after the Japanese word for tree, are nestled among light oak trees around the two-mile lake on the estate’s Hill Wood plots.

Finishes for the interior walls vary from matte white paint to bespoke birch ply.

On the other side of the porch is the guest suite.

All the kitchen cabinets and appliances are consolidated into one island. Both the island and light fixture were designed by Berman Horn Studio. The countertop is by Abet Laminati.

The couch is a vintage Milo Baughman, along side the Bessarabian rug, also vintage.

A playful mixture of antiques and mid-century furnishings adds personality to the white-box interior of a cottage.

The screened-in porch leads into an open great one on one half of the structure.

The front door is painted in Webster Green by Benjamin Moore.

“The design for the house emerged from walking the property. We imagined that as we climbed up from the beach, we’d see little peeks of our home from behind the trees,” says Brad Horn, architect and resident.

The house is oriented north-south, with the broad side of the structure facing east-west. This guarantees not only gorgeous views of the sunset, but also minimizes wind exposure.

A large dining table with bench seating is ideal for family gatherings. Complete with a wood-burning pizza oven, the kitchen and dining spaces have all the cooking amenities you need.

Living and dining spaces are open to one another, providing ample space for the whole family to gather. A white pendant light by LAAL hangs above the Provincial Table by The Wood Room.

Riehen, Switzerland, has a naturally filtered pool with a contemporary design courtesy of acclaimed Swiss architecture firm Herzog & de Meuron. Inspired by the traditional wooden pools found within the Rhine River, Naturbad Riehen replicates the experience of bathing in a lake by using aquatic plants and other biological filters to keep the water clean.

Austria–based natural pool pioneer BIOTOP has created natural swimming pools around the world for the past three decades. Pictured is one of their case studies: A spacious natural pool in a Vienna suburb with over 2,000 square feet of swimming space, floating lily pads, and stepping stones.

Located north of London in Gringley on the Hill, the award-winning Ellicar Show Pool is a permanent and private natural pool that serves as a showpiece for Ensata. Built in 2010, the pool stretches 92 feet long and features a large shallow end and a crystal-clear deep end that descends to nine feet.

Having completed nearly 70 biologically filtered pools across Australia, Natural Swimming Pools Australia was recently commissioned to convert an existing chlorine pool into a natural pool for a large homestead at the iconic Detroit Station in New South Wales. The team converted the pool just in time for the visit of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.

Tasked with creating a multi-use guest pavilion on a relatively small Northern California vineyard lot that could also host sit down dinners for up to 60 people, designers at Anderson Architects started by asking the key questions: “Where should it be within the property?” “How much floor area do we need for a 60 person dinner?” “How much volume do we need for a basketball court?” “We also always tell ourselves to look at the landscape first, let it dominate and lead it through. The building took the form of a large Napa Valley barn.

The ground floor kitchen is currently part of the rental apartment, but could easily become part of the office if the Uli Wagner Design Lab studio were to be extended downstairs in the future.
