The largest of multiple outdoor terraces includes a glass-mosaic-tile bench designed by Aldo Cibic and produced by Bisazza.

For the first-floor powder room, Eric cut and arranged 2" x 2" end-grain squares of white oak. Tropics Blue Crackle Tiles from Heath clad the opposite wall, visible in the mirror. Brass plumbing from Graff’s Sento line and Kuzco add finishing touches.

A shelving system in the living room displays books, decor, and the couple’s vinyl collection.

As with the kitchen island bench and the cabinetry for the media unit, the bathroom vanity was custom designed by Studio Jackson Scott and built on-site using Australian Blackbutt.

For this kitchen, the architects paired slate-gray HPL (high-pressure laminate) cabinets by Henrybuilt, cool Basaltina countertops, with custom shelving and a white Corian backsplash.

"Similar to the rest of the home, we wanted to keep the space minimal and austere in design, yet highly functional," says Hazelbaker. "With the additional square footage gained from the closets, our intention was to allow that additional space to stay ‘empty.’"

The plumbing fixtures and the dark ceramic tile reflect the black color of the cabinets. Round recessed handles are visually refined yet allow the panels on the vanity unit to be easily opened.

On the main floor of the second-story apartment, rustic oak flooring is paired with fir cladding, which unfolds into the staircase and walls of the “wood box” that contains the mezzanine level.

The existing wood structure and ceiling of the former saloon were completely refinished, and the exposed rafters were painted white for a brighter and more spacious feel. The old windows, floors, and finishes were replaced to create consistency with the new house.

The light well also brings light into the hallway.
