The dark timber floor on the ground floor was replaced with an imported Italian terrazzo floor by Marmi Scala, which provides a bright, reflective surface that unifies the ground floor in a gallery-style manner.

The front bedroom is now a dedicated office with plenty of shelving and storage.

The firm removed that excess trim to create a simplified backdrop.

From the entryway, the living room effortlessly merges with the kitchen, which is located toward the rear of the home.

"It was a bit of a gamble to separate the living room so far from the kitchen," says Denise. "When we were framing up, people really questioned that choice because they’re not used to seeing it that much."

The main bathroom features Timorous Beasties' White Moth Circle wallpaper. The mirror and vanity are from Gone Vintage in Belleville, Ontario. The shower is tiled in white saltillo tile from Saltillo Imports in Toronto.

One of the kids' bedrooms has a lamp that was scavenged, combined with a long incandescent bulb.

To make the bedroom feel warm and cozy, the architects added American oak floors that match the American oak battens applied to the cabinetry. The carpet is 100 percent wool.

The home office features a laminate desk and cabinets in a bright, cheery yellow. They were designed by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and made by Tomlinson Woodworks.
