The bedroom loft has an Anabella Round Chandelier from Arhaus for $999 and two Marlow Matchstick Pedestal Tables from Four Hands ($135/each).

To the kitchen, Blum added seating via bar stools and a peninsula wrapped in Midnight Corvo Quartz. Since electrical wires can’t be tucked behind the wood walls in an A-frame, Blum installed a Kichler Azores sconce from Build with Ferguson ($299.99 per light) to the beam, put the wire in the thinnest channel they could find, and painted it to match the wood.

The cabinets are Peppercorn Edge from BOXI by Semihandmade, with a backsplash composed of 2x6 ‘Racing Green’ Zia Tile ($18.85/sqft). The custom Living Brass Faucet by Brassna was $512 while all the brass switch plates are from Buster + Punch. The picture lights above the shelf are 8

A new cantilevered stair behind a batten screen was key to a more open, light-filled interior—and it offered a consistent design element that cut through the section of the home. “The wood elements really envelope you and define the space,” says architect Ian Starling.

Risa Boyer Architecture helped with a strategic remodel that targeted specific areas, such as the main living spaces, staircase, and primary suite. The kitchen was expanded to overtake an existing eating nook, and better connected to the dining room and living room.

Hung Dao, founder of AHL, designed the patios, thresholds, inner yards, and roofs with proportions that echo those of traditional Northern Vietnamese dwellings, but updated them to improve functionality.

At the back of the living area is a volume shaped like a wooden house, which contains the kitchen, storage space, and a bedroom.

Flooding is a constant threat in subtropical New South Wales, so Casey Johnston (pictured, with sons Raph and Ozzy) and husband Martin asked architect Justin Twohill to design a backyard house that could weather a downpour with minimal cleanup.

In the kitchen, an oak counter warms white lacquered cabinetry and a marble backsplash. "The kitchen was one of the trickiest parts of the flat to design," Petillault says. "[It was located] in the center of the floor plan, one room away from the windows, [so] we decided to blend it into the living room."

In the open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area, oak flooring laid in a chevron pattern and idiosyncratic wood ceiling beams add texture and a graphic quality.

Petillaut designed a large closet on the other side of the partition wall, which also acts as a headboard for the bed, in one of the master bedrooms.

The dining area and the living room step down from the kitchen; the change in height helps to define the open-plan rooms.

The main entry flows into the living room, which now accesses the outdoor terrace via the door to the left.

At the rear of Long Point Getaway, the back windows span 25 feet, opening up the home to waterfront views.
