For the remodel of the two-level home, now dubbed the Kit House, Nick and Marie maintained the original post-and-beam ceiling with cedar slats, as well as the full-height brick fireplace. The residents removed a wall dividing the kitchen, living, and dining areas to open up the formerly small and dark rooms and create one large, light-filled space.

“I like that from both sides of the flat you can see green space,” says Andrea Batignani, who currently rents the apartment from Satya.

To restore the original Georgian proportions in the living area, Patalab shortened an entry hall and repositioned the kitchen, which is illuminated at night by a 1965 pendant by Paavo Tynell.

The fireplace is covered in Norman brick from Mutual Materials, in an era-appropriate stacked pattern.

The freestanding tub in the guest suite bathroom sits beneath a four-foot square skylight.

A few steps down from the entry foyer, the four family bedrooms occupy their own wing. Right behind it, a two-story structure houses a den and additional bedroom on its ground floor and a principal guest suite with its own terrace on the floor above.

In the kitchen, designers Christina Valencia and Kele Dobrinski of Colossus Mfg. created a 14-foot island with a waterfall edge made of platinum-gray quartzite.

Colossus Mfg. outfitted the dining area with a round table from Burke Decor and leather-upholstered side chairs by Staffan Holm for Hem.
