In contrast to the bright interior, the architects chose dark exterior cladding to blend the cabin into its natural surroundings. The pine planks are finished with a high-quality, oil-based stain, and in the spirit of minimal intervention, the house sits on a wooden platform secured onto galvanized steel pillars.

The interior of the cabin, with its 19-foot-tall pitched ceiling, is covered in plywood panels that were glued to the structure’s wood frame—no nails or screws—to achieve a clean, seamless look.

In the library in the primary suite, big windows create a tree house effect. The pendant is a Pigeon Toe Ceramics X Rejuvenation model.

In the primary bathroom, the integrated sink and counter was fabricated by Cement Elegance, a Bend, Oregon-based company whose work Connie saw in a hotel, when Schwegmann and Helland came to visit. The matte black plumbing fixtures are from Cal Faucets.

The sunken sunroom has a Rais Q-Tee II Gas fireplace, and a Pigeon Toe Ceramics X Rejuvenation pendant light in the corner.

The kitchen was the most important room for the couple, who love to cook and spend a lot of time in the room. In the budget, they prioritized custom cabinetry and a sixteen-foot-long custom concrete island by Cement Elegance. Helland Architecture added large picture windows to overlook the yard.

The in-ground pool is placed between the primary bedroom and the casita.

The converted garage feels airy and private despite its 576 square feet. In fact, Brian recently hosted his friends, a family of five, in the casita.

The garage turned casita/pool house features a custom plywood bed, bench, and cabinetry.

Brian pulled out the wall-to-wall carpeting that was installed throughout much of the home to reveal the original concrete floors underneath, which had rampant cracks. He grinded the floors down and sealed them as matte as possible.

The revamped kitchen includes custom oak cabinets, quartz countertops and an H.D. Buttercup Lounge Chair as an accent.

The kitchen is outfitted with IKEA and Bosch appliances and a custom sink and countertop by Durat.

A vintage 1970s pendant hangs above a custom cherry dining table by Mambo Jambo, which features ceramic tiles by Studio Mano.

Jade, Zander, their dog and two cats moved in last May.
