Architect Douglas Peterson-Hui built his camper on a trailer purchased at Costco. Its angled structure and plywood exterior feel simultaneously vintage and modern.

Bivacco Claudio Brédy, opened in 2021, is one of many huts in the region named after climbers who died while mountaineering. It was designed by BCW Collective and built by Chenevier, with consultation from Roberto Dini, an architecture professor and friend of Brédy’s, seen here with other friends and family. They gathered at the hut to remember Brédy’s life.

As far as Invisible Studio is aware, it is the world’s first green timber building insulated to Passivhaus standards, with Passivhaus airtightness.

Waste materials are separated just below the seat. The urine is captured at ground level via a drainpipe, to be used as fertilizer, as it contains nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. The solids are captured via a series of stacked, donated wheelie bins, and will be used as fertilizer once left for 12 months.

The studio is built on two floors—there is a 592-square-foot enclosed space accessed via a bridge from the slope which is above an open workshop.

All of the joinery is crafted from plywood offcuts, including the two staircases. Handrails are made from offcuts of blue rope, leftovers from Invisible Studio's Studio in the Woods program. Both gable ends, "glazed" with high-performance interlocking polycarbonate, afford lots of light.

All of the timber was milled over the two days from trees that stood on the site of the future studio—no other timber was used.

Planning regulations required a gable roof, which the architects split into four shed roofs carefully designed to respond to heavy snow and meet spatial and aesthetic wishes.

The glass-walled cabins have been built from slow-growing and durable Växjö fir.

The Getaway Cabins start at $125 a night.

Land Ark RV’s Draper is a midcentury modern-inspired tiny house with clean lines, a simple and elegant layout, and an angled ceiling.

When Alex or Bruce leave the island, closing up shop is as simple as sliding panels of corrugated metal into place to protect the windows.

Those costs were partially recouped by using knotted pine planks for the exterior.
