The shed-roof clerestory pop-up mimics the pitch of the original home’s roofline.

Joel built the custom bunk beds to fit the small footprint. The walls are covered in Lulu & Georgia wallpaper.

In the dining room, a Lulu and Georgia table is surrounded by Maria Yee chairs and overhead is a Flos light. The stairs act as buffer between the main rooms and bedrooms. The painting is by Mimia to fit the scale of the room.

The home's contemporary kitchen features two styles of cabinetry (high gloss gray and whitewashed oak; both by Downsview) and two countertop materials (durable white corian and black granite). Mustard yellow counter stools by Calligaris add a jolt energy to the space.

Smoldering Red by Benjamin Moore is painted on the home's exterior horizontal siding. Above, panels in a range of energizing shades, including Wasabi, Fort Pierce, Sunflower Fields, and Bewitched (all by Benjamin Moore) add personality.

While the new facade is swathed in black stucco, it maintains elements of the original carriage house, which is hidden within the wall. Beyond the grounding stucco base, Healey designed two white volumes to be seen above, teasing the idea that more exists beyond the entry point.

The rudimentary form of the house mimics the pitched-roofed building surrounding the plot.

On the home's second level, a family room enjoys views through the surrounding tree canopy. An Objekto chair sits across from a Phantom Hands sofa and coffee table.

“Everything is located around the perimeter to create as much usable space as possible,” says de la Vega. The firm designed the banquette to do double duty as a storage trunk, and the wall hides custom-made closets with holes for hanging paintings and models. The vintage chairs are by Eero Aarnio for Asko.

The pine door leads to the bathroom.
