The metal structures inserted into the loft are as thin as possible and painted white so as to preserve the loft's open and airy feel.

The family loves books. This wall of bookshelves was custom-designed by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and fabricated by Tomlinson Woodworks. A bespoke reading nook is on the right.

The kitchen features a large, butcher-block island, as well as vaulted, wood-paneled ceiling.

The elegant eat-in kitchen is one of the highlights of the renovation. It features a center island clad in Carrara marble, sleek custom cabinetry, and high-end appliances from Fisher & Paykel. There is also a skylight which floods the space with natural light.

Pendant lights are lights that hang from a cable, cord, or pipe from an attachment at a ceiling. They primarily provide light in a downward direction, known as a downlight.

A large, marble island is the focal point of this all-white kitchen, with the marble backsplash helping to tie the space together.

The kitchen features Corian countertops and walnut cabinetry. The backsplashes are chevron-patterned, Carrera marble tile.

Sliding doors lead to the central courtyard, providing easy indoor/outdoor living and effortless entertaining.

A fiber cement “wrapper” clads the addition and the renovated home, which now totals 3,300 square feet. A translucent plexiglass canopy defines the new glassed entry. The front right corner, finished with contrasting local Atlantic white cedar, denotes a work room that serves the storage purposes of the previous garage.

Light-colored Belgium stone tiles in the bathroom foster consistency in the interior palette.

The patterned tile on the built-in shower bench is from Kerion Ceramics, and is playfully repeated in the wall niche.

The fireplace received a dark gray venetian plaster finish and salvaged wood mantel.

By removing walls and a counter peninsula jutting into the room, interior designer Corine Maggio was able to create enough space for a generous island. The stove wall is a fitting focal point with a hood vent accented in tigerwood and a quartz slab backsplash that helps to tie the space together.

Nelson bubble lamps hang above the kids' gaming station below.

The kitchen was opened up to make way for more counter space and a large island. All appliances were updated with Bosch products. "The client was interested in a simple material and color palette of white oak uppers, matte black lowers with Corian countertops, and white gyp walls accentuated by patterned tiles," the architects say. The pendant lights are by Secto design and the bar stools by Cherner.
