The architects design for the backyard showcases an outdoor deck, bleacher seating, a lush grass area, and a deck with seating and a fire pit.

Neutral terrazzo flooring and plaster walls offer interest and texture in the upper level bath.

The maple wall and hidden door lend warmth and texture and hide the primary bedroom so that it remains privacy.

Glass folding doors from Panoramic Doors reach nine-and-a-half feet high to open the kitchen to the courtyard. “It's such a unique feature, especially in Brooklyn,” says Slocum. “You rarely ever see that type of thing.”

This room can be a family room, office, or guest suite. The flooring is the same throughout: Riva Floors, Engineered Wood Select Grade, in Crystal Thunder, and the couch is from Restoration Hardware. Unseen is the foosball and ping pong tables.

The shower also has an arched niche with the same patterned tile, and field tile also from Fireclay, in ‘White Wash’ and ‘Blue Velvet.’

The designers were inspired by René’s upbringing in Puerto Rico, choosing Valencia tile from Fireclay to reference the colors and cobblestone streets of Old San Juan, joining it with a custom cane and wood vanity by The Build With Ethan.

Natalie and Lauren wanted to replicate the feel of a Zen garden with their home’s central courtyard. The garden features a Japanese maple that pops against the charred timber cladding, while structurally, the U-shape design ushers light right through to the back of the house.

A Murphy bed pulls out of a central, maple-clad volume that also holds a sleeping loft, a bathroom, and a kitchen designed and built by Remo. “When it’s so small, you see everything a little bit closer,” Remo says. “There was more pressure to do it right.”

Designer Raili Clasen forged through a challenging loan process to salvage a rundown property—saving its bocce court in the process.

The first phase of the remodel enlarged the footprint in the main bathroom, which pairs marble hex tile on the floor with Fireclay tile on the walls. The mirrors were $506 from Rejuvenation, and the sconces are by Nino Shea Design ($660 for three).

The lower-level bathroom enjoys a door to the outdoors so the family can enter directly after surfing. Green Emser tiles are arranged in a unique alternating pattern, and the shower floor is from Concrete Collaborative.

Hong took a risk and mixed tiles from different manufacturers to achieve the custom tile mosaic, using white tile from Bedrosians with mustard squares from Firecley. The black penny floor tile was a Wayfair find, while the vanity is by North Coast Modern. A Triple Seven Home sconce was placed above a Wayfair mirror.

The shower went from claustrophobic to open and airy, thanks to a new glass enclosure.

A Clad Home white sofa joins a Lulu & Georgia coffee table and two cane chairs by Leanne Ford for Crate & Barrel. The artwork over the sofa was commissioned from a friend to complete the space.
