Unlike other composite decking materials, TimberTech products look like real wood without a fake, plastic sheen—and unlike real wood, they resist fading, splintering, and staining.
The communal lodge channels a traditional tobacco barn's black creosote siding.
The modular pool also uses propane to heat the water.
The communal lodge features six nearly identical bedrooms alongside an interior made of exposed concrete, flooring, steel, and brass.
Flexibility was paramount in the apartment’s redesign. The new layout was configured as a series of volumes that can change and adapt based on the clients’ needs. The den can be kept open to the main living area, or closed off with sliding glass and metal doors.
Designed in 1899 by notable architect Robert Maynicke, the architecturally exemplary loft includes 14 double-hung windows which line the perimeter.
"The simple shape was extruded lengthwise along the site and sliced down the middle with a pond to form a central axis," say the architects. "Slender, cathedral-like spaces were formed around this central thoroughfare with ponds running parallel to walkways to link the spaces."
Thanks to its natural color, concrete also serves as a wonderful “blank canvas” for landscaping.
The communal courtyard at the front of the complex is a favorite meeting place for the couples’ kids. Underneath a six-foot overhang, concrete planters alternate with custom entryways fabricated on-site from lenga wood.
