As a first step in the design process, I created this inspiration collage to explore the atmosphere and visual language of the concept. I drew from Matisse’s La Blouse Roumaine (influenced by his friendship with Romanian painter Theodor Pallady) as well as the sculptural clarity of Romanian artist Constantin Brancusi. 
It explores mood, colour, and cultural layering to shape the soul of the kitchen.

The client wanted to display her collection of Romanian plates in the kitchen, but also needed ample storage. Rather than choosing between the two, I let the plates take flight. Suspended from the ceiling in a solution that’s practical, personal, and playful

I chose deep green as the dominant colour to reflect and amplify the brightness of the space

Research into traditional Romanian architecture, particularly in Transylvania, revealed a strong use of bold colours for windows, doors, and roof edges. 
My initial inspiration collage (a step preceding the moodboard) clearly suggested: this one should be red.
