Armadillo crafts its rugs in a way that is respectful to both the environment and communities. In April 2021, in recognition of its considered approach, Armadillo became the first Australian rug brand to achieve B Corp certification.

The dark green tones of the Panama rug (in the aptly named Kale colorway) work with the dark timber furniture and potted plant to evoke a sense of the natural world and bring character to an otherwise minimal interior. “The new jute rugs are so versatile, working across many different decorative styles,” says Armadillo co-founder, Jodie Fried.

The raw texture of the Mesa rug adds depth and natural beauty to contemporary interiors. Here, two rugs have been used to create clear zones within an open space.

Working with a sumptuous material palette, Ehrlich Yanai Rhee Chaney Architects designed a sprawling new residence in Palo Alto for Mark and Laura Pine. The teak wood and handmade Danish bricks that define the exterior are used inside as well; distressed stainless steel panels by Chris French Metal sheathe one side of the upper volume. Blasen Landscape Architecture chose Peruvian feather grass to flank the entrance walkway.

The stair tower is 10 feet wide by 30 feet tall.

The handmade bricks found throughout the house are by Danish company Petersen Tegl.

Downstairs, a Knoll Barcelona chair joins a Piuma coffee table by Antonio Citterio for Flexform.

The roof deck is outfitted with Janus et Cie Amari Low Back lounge chairs.

The rear structure contains a gym with sliders on both sides, a guestroom, and a kitchenette.

The staircase leads to the lower level, where there's a wine tasting room that doubles as a guest room.

The staircase, which runs from the lower level to the third floor, is lined by a single 32-foot-tall pane of glass.

An internal courtyard features furniture by Janus et Cie.

The kitchen cabinets, designed by Taku and built by Osamu Hironaga, hold dishes from Taku’s Hasami porcelain line, which is produced in Nagasaki.

The fire pit area displays a 48-inch concrete fire bowl, woven chairs, and upcycled tree stumps for kid-friendly-seating.

Dobrinski painted the existing brick wall in the outdoor dining area, applying geometric forms that lend a whimsical note.

Dining and Kitchen

Picture windows span one side of the primary living area opposite the full-height glass wall.

Fixtures from Helvex plumbing are incorporated into both kitchen and bath.
