The cabinets are painted Rainy Afternoon by Benjamin Moore, combined with white oak boxes for contrast. “We were also badly hit by the material price increases during Covid,” says Aleksandra, whether it was kitchen cabinets or framing lumber. The couple were receiving quotes that changed week to week.

The staircase needed to be rebuilt to meet current building code, but being in basically its original location, is an anchor in the redesign. The wall color is "Hamilton Blue

The walls and floors are covered in white oak, with wall hooks from Stahl and Board. The overhead light is AND Lighting Pipeline. “I am a tall human and I need room to span and hug and embrace and bring people in,” says Natalie. “So it felt like the entry was really the driver for how we were going to manipulate the house.”

Metal accents, like the steel awning and railing, sync with the new metal roof.

Mulberry trees shade the side facade. In winter they shed their leaves and let the sun into the exterior.

Behind the Red Wood Maple tree, a statement-making red, Smoldering Red by Benjamin Moore, swathes the home's exterior horizontal siding.

While the new facade is swathed in black stucco, it maintains elements of the original carriage house, which is hidden within the wall. Beyond the grounding stucco base, Healey designed two white volumes to be seen above, teasing the idea that more exists beyond the entry point.

Much of the home’s exterior was preserved. The siding is painted Benjamin Moore “Dolphin,” and the trim is Benjamin Moore “Mopboard Black.”

A Rope Sofa by Normann Copenhagen defines the plush, inviting living room. Pearl oak hardwood floors by Hallmark Floors stay true to the subdued palette. Behind, the dining room features a Pedestal marble table and Neutra chairs from Casa Quieta under the Mori pendant from RBW. A Molekule air purifier hums quietly.

Viewed from the entrance, the kitchen is a streamlined composition thanks to sleek concrete countertops by Caesarstone and Basis cabinet fronts by Reform. There’s a contemporary induction cooktop, fridge, and wall oven by Dacor. Viso counter stools by Muuto pull up to the island, embellished by a Linear pendant light by Kuzco above.

The bathrooms were modeled after Japanese ryokans. Here in the main bathroom, muted Fireclay tiles clad the shower, which features a built-in bench and Purist fixtures from Kohler.

In the guest bedroom, Brim sconces from RBW are crisp accents under a Caralaga wall tapestry. The bedding is by Cultiver, and the organic mattress is from Brentwood Home.
