New custom walnut cabinetry syncs with the rest of the built-ins throughout the home, to create a pleasing rhythm in the open plan. The backsplash is Heath Ceramics tile, and the counter is Pental Quartz. Open shelves at the rear overlook a cozy den, and allow sightlines out the new windows at the front of the home.
The sunken living room features a multifunctional piece of built-in furniture that integrates a sofa, sound system, and television, and also contains a "secret door" that leads to a wine cellar. "[We incorporated this] as a clin d’oeil to the midcentury tradition of built-in work stations and bookshelves," says Morales.
“Our mechanical fastening system allows components to be shipped economically and put into place quickly with a minimum of hassle using common tools,” says Morris. In addition to offering a variety of finishes for the posts and stringer, the company also provides wood selections such as Ash, Hickory, and Oak in various finishes, along with the option of glass, cable, or rod railings.
