Kitty Morgan and Charles Desmarais live in Eichler’s Laguna Heights complex, a cluster of six low-rises in San Francisco. The 1962 urban development marked a departure for Eichler from the suburban enclaves that he was known for.

For convenience, Eva and restoration architect Victor Drapszo moved the kitchen from the second floor to the first floor, which originally housed a garage, laundry, and guest room. The cabinetry is Gamma by Arclinea, the countertops are Lagoon quartz by Silestone, and the floor is polished concrete.

“It was great to work from the plans of someone who was a part of the history of architecture,” says Drapszo.

“There is an enormous amount of glass here,” laughs Vanbesien—so much so that the design team struggled to find enough wall space to mount the heat pump.

Copper cladding will patina over time. Horizontally articulated windows and standing seams give the facade a sleek, streamlined presence.
