In the lounge, banquettes are upholstered in Lee Jofa’s Saranac Cord fabric in gold.

The most hands-on part of the inn’s facelift happened in the bar and adjacent lounge area, where the front desk was removed and the bar was elongated. A new bar-back was constructed out of wood shelving and supported by copper piping.

The doors mix wood and glass to allow for easy indoor/outdoor living, while the open floor plan keeps things airy.

The gourmet kitchen boasts dual marble islands, custom white oak cabinetry, and high-end Gaggenau appliances.

The light-filled lobby has a vintage vibe and centers around Dóttir, an Icelandic-themed restaurant that is open for three meals a day.

Inside, clear-coated cedar dominates the walls and ceilings, seamlessly extending along deep exterior overhangs as well. Continuously running floors and full-height windows also enhance the home’s connection with the outdoors.

The original ranch home now houses the living and dining areas, along with the kitchen.

Since the home is something of a pied-à-terre for the clients, its design is geared more toward short-term stays than full-time living. That means spaces like the kitchen are set up for entertaining. Notice the curve on the cabinetry, counter, and backsplash, which is Calacatta Macchia Vecchia marble. All of the appliances are from Fisher & Paykel, and the wall sconce is a Gabriel Scott single Welles pendant in smoked glass and brushed brass.

“For me, it was very important to use materials which last and age with grace,” Schalgien says of the Verde Guatemala countertops.
