The family eats most of their meals at the island. Amornpan liked the look of marble for the island and counters, but the material is heavy and costly. Blue Truck Studio sourced much lighter porcelain with a similar look.

A Sub-Zero refrigerator is set into the corner of the kitchen, with quartzite countertops across a sky-blue island.

There's a secondary "record room

The polished concrete floor of the kitchen continues onto the patio for cohesion. The color of the cabinetry was also chosen to link this common space to the outdoors.

The wildflowers on the roof can be seen through the skylights throughout the day. A duo of sliders allows for a clear connection to the garden.

The landscaping was added between the construction of the main house and the Casita.

The kitchen has Ikea cabinets with Colonial Bronze hardware that “elevates” them, topped with honed Carrara marble counters. Holly is familiar with using a high-low mix for clients. The stools are by PNW maker Phloem Studios and the ceiling lights were sourced from OneFortyThree.

The rebuilt “Idea House,” designed by Holly Freres and David Horning of JHL design. The driveway is permeable to encourage good drainage: crushed granite gravel is installed over a stabilization mat. James Hardie exterior siding is painted in Benjamin Moore ‘White Dove,’ with reclaimed wood used for the entry and garage.

Filled with predominately Australian plants, the garden is easy to look after.

Carmen chose a handmade Spanish tile to feature in her simple kitchen. The spotted gum hardwood floorboards were a surprise hiding beneath the home's linoleum and carpet.

The raised roofline allows even greater access to the far-reaching views and light breezes.

The primary suite opens to the closet, which was inspired by retail stores.

Low-slung modular seating by B&B Italia provides enough space for a party without encumbering the view.
