Kari’s colorful living room features a handful of her paintings, a splatter-painted sofa, midecentury wall sconces, and curved wooden coffee table. The palette was informed by her art and vice versa.
The living areas are located on the upper level, where natural light spills inside thanks to expansive glazing which capture captivating views of the greenery below.
Two of the three bedrooms await on the lower level, one of which has its own entrance.

The home's original butternut paneling in the kitchen inspired new white oak cabinetry for its open plan layout.
The living room has a pavilion-like feel, featuring a grand piano, upholstered sectional, Eames lounge chair and ottoman, and Isamu Noguchi coffee table, but no visible television.

The clients—a family of five with three children in college—wanted to create an “urban cabin” that embraces the tranquil forested site on the shores of Lake Minnetonka. The solution was to use vast expanses of glass to dissolve the boundaries between inside and out.
