The light is so different here from in New York,” says Reddy, who is opening an L.A. office later this year. “There, it has so much blue in it. Here, it has much more orange.” A vintage El Monte lamp from Lawson-Fenning is paired with an Eames lounge in Will’s room.

Inside, an MDO-and-metal dresser, designed by the architects and built by Custom Manufacturing and Tutto Ferro, doubles as a headboard. Perched atop it is a bust by Manuel Neri. The lounge and ottoman are TK.

While floor-to-ceiling glazing defines the public space, smaller picture windows—like the one at the home’s first floor office—frame views more selectively.

The interior incorporates earthy materials like salvaged teak. “You can see the landscape on either side of you,” says Hoppenot. “The rich teak walls disappear into the height of the space, and diluted natural light floods down from the skylights and in through the windows.”

The double-height wall of windows in the living room looks out on the property and was a big draw on their first walk-through.

From a classic IKEA number to a wood table from Sossego, there’s a hardworking desk to suit every style and budget.

A Japanese soaking tub is positioned beneath a window to appreciate the site.

The couple designed the oak built-ins to tuck under the existing high windows, making sure the new wood tones meld with the existing wood on the floor and ceiling.

A custom sofa anchors the space, with a custom rug from Armadillo & Co. A Wittus fireplace was designed into the custom millwork.

Risa Boyer Architecture guided the whole house remodel of this 1955 Portland home. Lillyvilla Gardens executed a new landscape plan for the property, including this updated entry sequence, while Boyer added more glass to suit the midcentury façade.

Sleek storage lockers at the entry accommodate all of the family members. The bench is made from wood salvaged during the remodel.

In a nod to James Turrell, the home is perforated with skylights and light windows.
