Thanks to the translucent roof, the central stairwell is inundated with natural light. The rear extension added two bedrooms and two baths down the hallway.

The sweeping, curved oak staircase with an oak balustrade leads to the first floor, which—unlike the ground floor’s polished concrete flooring—features herringbone oak parquet floors. Underfloor heating is powered by a 12kW ground-source heat pump with 600 meters of pipe buried in the garden.

A seating nook on the staircase showcases the pillows that the firm made from the vintage silk scarves they found online—a detail that helped inform the color palette for the project.

The railings in the casitas echo the details of the main house. The stair treads are painted the same dusty blue as the loft floor. These tiny bunkhouses are designed to sleep a family of four, and also house a little kitchenette and bathroom.

The breezeway acts as a big communal dining space, while the round table for six in the kitchen is for more casual family meals.

The stairwell features mesh, a product actually used in landscaping. "It stretches so we quite liked it because it was agricultural and referenced rural fencing that you see outside. It's almost like chicken wire fencing,
