An arched opening was added to connect the kitchen and breakfast nook, and gain sightlines to the yard. Seamus refinished the fireplace mantle and added square zellige Zia tile in âNanaâs Lipstickâ to the surround. Gubi Semi Pendants hang over the island, and the sink has a Devol Ionian Bridge Tap.
The arrangement of windows in the home creates a play of light and shadow and allows the family to experience different views as they move around the space. âItâs about creating a calm, comfortable home that is still dynamic,â says architect Line Solgaard. âThere are 360-degree views but you donât see in every direction at all timesâthere are moments of drama throughout.â
After: The kitchenâs countertops and backsplash are âall those 1950s-30s enamel card tables,â Geoffrey explains. âThat was a decision I made early on; it took me a year and a half to collect them all.â The beams were a great surprise; they were hidden away in the ceiling. The appliances are former Consumer Reports test appliances bought at auction, and the ceiling lights are a custom design, intended to look mid-century.
