A soaker tub and large reclaimed beam (salvaged from an old barn) creates a casual boundary between bath and bedroom. Moroccan-inspired cement tile, a custom vanity, white quartz Kohler bath fixtures create a spa-like feel.
In the bathroom, plywood cabinets by Doug Chamblin support a concrete countertop Stern designed himself. A Toto toilet, Americh tub, Duravit sink, and Danze Parma faucet round out the space.
The architects replaced the solid walls with glass for porosity, and exposed a steel structural column. The main entry is to the left of the stairs. A walnut slat wall lines the staircase, with the slats plunging down to the lower level for definition and to ensure light could flow.
In the process of transforming a run-down motor lodge into Hotel Wren, designer and Manola Studio founder Jessica Pell also turned the accompanying home into her own desert retreat.
