One of Amber’s favorite features in in the house is the splash of color in the kitchen backsplash, via a tile called 'Unfading' green slate from Vermont Structural Slate Company.

The couple took advantage of numerous municipal programs when landscaping the backyard. Mandy recently completed a free course through LADWP, who also promotes resources for the SoCal Turf Replacement Program, to become a certified California Native Plant Landscape: “There is an amazing amount of knowledge and resources for transitioning yards with more native/drought-tolerant plants through LADWP and the Theodore Payne Foundation,” says Mandy.

Working with salvaged and donated materials (and without ferry service), the Stinn Family assembled this dreamy getaway piece by piece.

On the patio sits an outdoor dining set that Jared built using wood salvaged from the original house.

A bathtub with breathtaking desert views is tucked into a nook just off the primary bedroom.

Jared built many of the home’s furnishings by hand—including the bed frames.

The kitchen opens to a cozy living area located in the shell of the original home.

The original tongue-and-groove ceiling can still be seen in the living room, where an eclectic mix of furniture, including a Ligne Roset Togo, chair creates a laid-back ambiance.

In addition to presenting a striking blend of wood, glass, and metal, the property also offers a private, fenced-in lot, complete with mature trees, a lush lawn, and raised garden beds.

New pine and spruce wood from the Pyrenees (both recyclable and PEFC certified) were selected for the façade of the 1,000-square-foot prefab. Smart blinds cover the windows, rigged to open and close depending on the weather forecast.

The Fish Camp acts as the couple’s forest getaway, just a quarter mile from their main house.
