In the living room, soft-hued seating arranged in a circle is perfect for entertaining. On the far wall, Sunrise Over the Hudson, by Erik Koeppel, competes with the stunning scenery outside. “Charlie was interested in skewered views, like looking straight up at the sky and then out to the woods,” says Rick.
“The garden activates seclusion from the mundane world, creates tranquility in the city, and liberates the mind in the passage between the mundane world and nature,” says Principal Architect Hiroshi Nakamura. “When people feel stressed, they can look out the window at the garden and transfer their mind to it.”
For the silk stair runner, Geremia Design sent a full-scale template of the stairs to Atelier Février in France for a bespoke design that was handmade in Nepal. “The colors of the dark navy ground and bright blue pointillist patterning were dyed to match Pantone colors, which we pulled from colorful moments across the project palette,” says Willemsen.
