Set to one side of the property, the lap pool is tucked into the landscape and positioned to take in the views. “There’s nothing more luxurious than a lap pool when you’re a swimmer, but I didn’t want to be looking at a sad pool in winter,” says Michael. “If I were living in California or someplace like that, it would be right in front of me all the time. But here, it's off to the side. So it's kind of its own world.”

“We wanted to keep the whole house as a kind of perfect cubic volume, and so the porch was a carve-out of that volume, as opposed to a kind of additive element,” says Markiewicz.

Floating off the wall, a fireplace adds heat to the living room.

A two-story commercial glass and aluminum window is reflected in the property’s pond. The ends of the home taper to form a “knife edge” profile, making the walls appear paper thin. “The detail is more than a detail—it’s a space-defining element,” says Höweler.
