In the living space, a custom sofa doubles as a pullout bed. An Aeris Cocoon bioethanol fireplace is suspended from the ceiling.

The prefabricated cabin consists of four modules connected by covered walkways. Each module has a dedicated purpose: living, sleeping/studying, energy, and outdoor dining. Connected to the sleep/study space, the energy module has a greenhouse and rainwater collection system.

Lauren designed a wood storage shelf for the exterior of the cabin, which fits in the open space beneath the bed inside.

“We wanted to convey a Northern Californian aesthetic rooted in material sensitivity, experimentation, and a deep connection to place,” says Blunk Space curator Mariah Nielson, daughter of JB Blunk, of the booth’s pairing. It features furniture by contemporary designer Rio Kobayashi alongside historic Blunk-era paintings.

White oak cabinetry and a custom headboard anchor the space. Black accents and floating shelves create contrast.

Each volume—a workshop, one for the primary suite, another for the living space, and a screened porch—is 12 feet wide, a limitation set by the site and by what was possible to bring over by boat.

He also built the record player stand using a console he salvaged from a set.

Like in the living room, Graci removed the closet in the bedroom. Andrew constructed a custom storage cabinet for clothes, suitcases, and display objects. Graci installed a mirror on the wall opposite of the windows to help bounce more light around.

The fireplace is a salute to midcentury-modern design. Brick is used both here in the living room and in the den.
