This living/dining space is the social center of the apartment. For that reason, the architect designed the cabinet walls as a unifying visual feature that anchors the two rooms and provides practical storage space.

The slats on the window offer solar protection and privacy. “Before the slats were installed, it really felt like you were just living on the street,” says Vanbesien.

Bruno transformed the building’s ground-floor bakery into an office for his eponymous firm.

A custom floating vanity from STILLE HOME provides ample storage in the guest bathroom, while towels from Slowtide add a pop of color.

In one of the two kids’ bedrooms, a colorful mural by Taylor Bringhurst cascades down the wall. “She pulls in awesome colors and groovy movements that almost reflect little waves and the sunshine,” says Leah. “We love it.”

Light pours into the renovated kitchen from all directions, with the breezy natural palette transforming the room into a warm and inviting family space. After removing walls, the dated and mismatched floors became an eyesore, with Leah opting to replace them with Hakwood Engineered European Oak floors in ‘Aura,’ which run throughout the home.

The island helps to define and separate the open-plan kitchen, dining, and living areas.

The main circulation staircase is crafted completely from timber. This materiality is echoed in the large bespoke storage wall that runs beside it.

Antonio and Estela have been together since they were teenagers and today have two teenage children, a son and daughter. The couple built a business together and lived in rented accommodation but always dreamed of having their own home. As their company became increasingly successful, they had the opportunity to not just buy but create their dream home. Interestingly, for a home that values privacy, the front garden is conceived as a semi-public space.

The ground floor of the home features wide spaces that open out to greenery. “You don’t need walls everywhere to make the house feel big,” explains Eduardo Ugalde from All Arquitectura. “By creating a large garden on the site that is open to the sky, you create a feeling of spaciousness.”
