FLO is a floating, off-grid cabin located on the Halden Canal in Norway, an area with deep roots in the logging industry. The design pulls from these influences to create a cabin that is steeped in local history and intimately connected to place.

A wall of shelves holds color-blocked books, 3D-printed prototypes (including several versions of Joshua’s soy sauce cruet), and objets the designer has collected over the years, like a 1937 Top-O-Stove Potato Baker by Raymond Barton and salt and pepper shakers by William Lescaze.

"It's simple, yet it's expressive,” Scardulla says. “We don't like excesses. We don't like when you enter a space, and everything is immediately declared, everything is clear. We like discovery and complexity. That's why we love that you get there and you get to the door, and you have one perception, then you enter and get another, step down, and have a new perception, and so on. You take the bed down and get a new perception again."

Walden 7 is one of Taller de Arquitectura’s pioneering housing projects, designed to address the problems of modern city living—in particular, how to balance communal spaces with privacy. Located just outside Barcelona, the complex features five interior courtyards and 446 residences spread across 18 towers of 14 stories each. The towers are modular, but they are arranged in an organic, unsystematic form and connected via communal spaces and bridges to create distinct identities.

A careful conversion of an old stone farmhouse, this luxury estate marries the beauty of the home’s original masonry with new elements of glass and Corten steel. While working with the existing stone envelope, the new home was opened up on all sides to highlight views of the expansive oak forest, and Mediterranean Sea beyond.

Set on 25 bucolic acres in the Belgian countryside, this former train station was thoroughly reimagined by architect Stéphane Lebrun of Kyo-co Atelier. The original train tracks circle the home’s grounds, with new buggies built to fit – preserving a past relic for modern day fun.
