The couple's daughter reads in the cozy nook just inside the front door painted in a vibrant blue from Benjamin Moore. Of the storage area below, Fredrik says, "In Sweden, there's always a place to sit and take off your shoes. This is a version of that."

A full bedroom sits on one end of this ADU, with a second bedroom on the opposite end, for privacy.

A backyard office with living roof was added midway through the remodel, in response to existing jobs becoming permanently remote. The 50 square foot shed is bunkered into the ground, intimately immersing the work area into the landscape. A casement window is placed strategically at grade—providing fresh air and connective views of the backyard’s natural greenery.

Unsurprisingly, the ofuro is a favorite part of the home for the young family. “They use the ofuro all the time, just as they said they would!” says Katich of his clients.

Triple-pane NanaWall windows keep things cozy, even through the coldest months.

The couple loves to entertain, and the oversized kitchen island is the perfect place to prep. The countertop is quartz; the backsplash, hot-rolled steel. Barstools are from Pottery Barn. Lighting was sourced from West Elm.

The home is oriented to the south to take advantage of the light.

While the prefabs do not come with plumbing fixtures, appliances, wall trims, cabinets, or waste water systems, customized options can be purchased through CABN.

Under the extension of the A-frame is the dining area and a large sofa for gathering. According to Pablo, the family gathers there in all weather. "Listening to the rain on the roof and in the trees is a wonderful experience," he notes.

Timber inlay in the cement screed demarcates thresholds.

An outdoor shower set in the timber-clad walkway offers another way for the homeowners and their guests to connect with nature, and an easy way to rinse off after swimming.

A staircase with white oak treads accesses the loft-style bedroom. The kitchen counters and bathroom flooring are crafted from concrete mixed with glass beads that give the material an organic feel and a lighter weight.

The bathroom's shower is wheelchair accessible, if needed.

The deck off the kitchen brings the outdoors in and breaks up the home's north and west facades.
