The couple added the wainscot, installed by Seamus, and painted in Farrow & Ball Red Earth to continue the “color story” from the breakfast room. The Caitlin couch by Everygirl for Interior Define sits atop a vintage checkered rug with an Anthropologie coffee table and Hay Paper Shade overhead.

“Color is something I knew going into the home that I really wanted to play with and explore,” says Kara. “I wanted to be a little bolder in this house.” The kitchen’s greys transition to a an earthy red in the breakfast room. Clement Wall Lights from Visual Comfort are mounted on the stove wall.

An arched opening was added to connect the kitchen and breakfast nook, and gain sightlines to the yard. Seamus refinished the fireplace mantle and added square zellige Zia tile in ‘Nana’s Lipstick’ to the surround. Gubi Semi Pendants hang over the island, and the sink has a Devol Ionian Bridge Tap.

In the primary bathroom, Katz used sliced bricks to cover the walls and floor. "Since it's not being used in a load-bearing capacity, we didn't have to use grout between the bricks," he says.

A painting by architect Gregory Katz adds vibrant color to the living room. The sofa and tables are from Up-Cycled, a company that upholsters, refurbishes, and makes custom furniture. The geometric, gray-and-black wall is made with bricks from Corobrik, a South African brick manufacturer.

The public wing of the house has a large, open plan that includes the living room, kitchen, and dining room. The six-seater island is made from South African granite sourced through a local quarry. The homeowners had it leathered to look like it came straight out of the ground.
