The second house seeking a buyer is the sprawling one-level property known as Casa Um.

The cabin comes with a double bed. Storage beneath the frame hides a second, narrower mattress that fits in the hallway or lounge.

The friends behind this design studio rely on the “magic” of their collective to make beautiful (and practical) objects.

A patio of pavers creates a space for outdoor dining and the barbecue, which Ricks uses often for gatherings of friends. A permeated pergola add some sun protection.

A skylight fills the primary bathroom with natural light all day.

The gable-roofed home features sustainable Accoya wood siding and Tecu patinated copper by KME, experimental materials that Ricks had proposed for MASS Design Group competition entries but put in use for the first time here. His colleague, Sierra Bainbridge, designed the landscape.

The living room sits adjacent to the main entry, where a glazed wall brings in ample natural light. Original stonework separates the space with the dining area set just steps away.

This 530-square-foot prefab in East Sussex, England, was designed by Michael Kendrick Architects for a family who wanted to build a woodland retreat/rental on their property. Immersing the lodge into the forest reflects the family’s intent to, as the architects explain, “enhance the ecological biodiversity of the area, protect wildlife, and enable guests … to understand and appreciate the fauna, flora, and unique history and nature of the area, while supporting and promoting the local economy.”

The daylit kitchen/dining space nourishes an array of plants. Audi and Ivy used solid white oak to craft a prototype of their firm’s Zygo sideboard, which holds their place mats and orchid supplies. The Amagansett kitchen island is by Siosi, and the farm sink is vintage.

The pair also designed the upstairs bathroom’s eye-catching geometric vanity, which pairs elm with a quartzite countertop.

The brass backsplash was a risky experiment carried off by Natalie, who started with unlacquered 4x8 foot sheets, then gave them patina by covering them in vinegar, ketchup, and salt, and leaving them out in the sun. The resulting pattern was aligned as carefully as possible, and the surface sealed. “We just had to essentially cut the topography into a way that felt really great,” says Natalie.

In this living area, a built-in Murphy bed can be pulled down to create a flexible sleeping area when needed. This Murphy bed incorporates two small bedside nooks with built-in lighting.

All the Shackup cabins also come with private, wood-fired hot tubs.
