"The idea for the shower room is that it would be like a retreat," Eric says. "There is a long hallway between it and the bedroom, so it becomes an intentional procession every time you want to get there." The floor is a large-format tile in a geologic-inspired pattern. "It almost looks like it's full of fossils," Eric says. He and Emily populated the room with green plants for a natural layer of color.

Clark sits at the top of the ladder to his playroom. Emily and Eric purchased the fiddle leaf fig tree when they were dating; it has followed them ever since. Currently, in residence in the connector space, it receives ample amounts of light. "This is a favorite spot in the home," Emily says. "When you pass through here, you can take a moment to pause and decide where you want to go."

Clark's bathroom doubles as the guest bathroom.

Custom cabinetry and millwork were expenses the Hughes didn't mind splurging on. Clark's room has a strip of shelving painted sky blue; the color appears throughout the house in various iterations (it's Emily's favorite).

The original ceiling, made from old-growth pine, adds warmth to the living room, balancing out the white walls and salvaged white oak flooring.

Palm trees, box palms and ferns give the backyard a verdant, tropical ambiance.

Instead of commissioning custom casework, as originally planned, the couple saved money by finding vintage furniture, such this corner shelving unit, complemented by a vintage midcentury coffee table.

A skylight over the bathroom tub allows the homeowners to see stars at night while bathing.

A simple kitchen gives way to a vintage dining table, one of many pieces Zara and James found online. Sliding glass doors help bring the outside in.

The bathroom at the back of the Airstream can, when privacy allows or nature's call necessitates, take advantage of one of the trailer's largest operable windows.

Built in Sunset Park, L.A., the original model was made by ERLA Construction (a company started by one of Minarc's cofounders) from a structural insulated panel (SIP) developed in house.

In addition to commissioning custom cabinetry for the kitchenette, Minarc designed its sink (dubbed RUBBISH) to have a basin made from recycled rubber.

Also available in either light or dark options, the bathroom is outfitted with appliances and fixtures made by the German manufacturer Baqua.

The spruce cladding along the interior can be left as is or painted white, and the wood floor boards can be darkened or replaced with tile: both at no extra cost. LOVT also offers to install pleated blinds on the windows for $1500–$4300.

A wooden grid wall separates the kitchen from the couple’s work area, which features a one-armed sofa and a large paper pendant, both of their design. The family dog, Billie, often gets a smile from Junko for good behavior.
