Green Roof and Ocean View

Mike Secore at MHS Architectural Millwork in Marlborough, New Hampshire, crafted the built-in maple cabinetry in the den for the television, books, and games.

Original pine wall boards are painted white to reflect light in the den. A George Nelson pendant hangs above a clean-lined sectional sofa atop carpet tiles by FLOR. The pillows are made from MissPrint Garden City fabric, and the quilt is from Haptic Lab.

This extra-large kitchen island seats 9 and is the perfect place for large family dinners, a cocktail party spread, or even a work-from-home setup.

A bridge links the living area to the kitchen.

The shared kids’ bath features a tile terrazzo floor, soaking tub, and Brodware taps. The clerestory window lets in northern light without compromising privacy.

The shared second-floor bath has a black tile backsplash that references the home’s shou sugi ban siding. The oak and cold-rolled steel vanity echoes the design of the kitchen’s furniture-like island.

The bathroom on the second level is outfitted with terrazzo tile flooring, ceramic mosaic tile on the walls, and a walnut vanity.

Local cabinetmaker Peter Pomerantz made the custom, white oak cabinetry and Flywheel Industrial Arts fabricated the steel hood. “It’s about lines and shadows; no hardware,” Herrmann says.
