Floor Plan of Summertown House by Troppo Architects and Fabrikate

The single-story 670-square-foot beach house was mindfully positioned on the property to create privacy from the street. The layout hugs an outdoor patio with bedrooms on one end of the house and the open-concept communal areas on the opposite end, opening up to the courtyard to create a seamless indoor-outdoor living space.

The L-shaped modular house has a floor plan with two distinct wings — one for living and the other for sleeping. The communal dining, living and kitchen area is encased in glass and overlooks Dunalley Bay, while the three bedrooms are tucked away down a hallway for privacy.

The Mikado 2 sofa by Hans Hopfer for Roche Bobois is a bright and cheery centerpiece in the otherwise sedate living room. The nubby wool Photon rug from Design Within Reach warms up the expanse of concrete. The framed drawing is by the Los Angeles–based artist Daniel Brice. Huge sliding doors open the house to the outdoors and virtually double the Burtons' living space.
