Moreland House

Thanks to Matthew Hufft, their envelope-pushing architect and longtime friend, Hannah and Paul Catlett have a new home in southwestern Missouri that’s a fresh, unconventional take on the traditional farmhouse.

Modern Barns is a 4,300-square-foot dwelling consisting of a series of timber volumes with pitched roofs.

In this Australian project, a resort-worthy swimming pool sits beside the industrial-chic kitchen and living area. It's a joy to swim in, of course, but the body of water also provides evaporative cooling for the courtyard.

The entry steps, made of concrete, are bordered by a minimalist white picket fence with wood handrails. Even the pickets reiterate the curves of the entry area.
