The theme of the white "envelope

The architect removed the clunky addition enclosing the front door and reinstated the original door and sidelites. New and restored board-and-batten siding is painted Roycroft Bronze Green by Sherwin Williams.

The cantilevered addition was kept, and another bedroom added to the second floor over the existing house. Parks collaborated with Fort Structures to ensure that the third addition would sync with the rest of the house, replicating the window placement to make them sit between the roof beams, while still meeting current code and insulating the ceiling.

Set on the highest point of the property, the house offers panoramic views.

A custom concrete vanity by Béton Johnstone and Croma White tiles create a serene retreat, accepted by countryside views.

A custom-made sofa fills the wall, with a coffee table from Sun City Exports. The rug is from West Elm.

The family loved the second bedroom for its plywood walls, ceiling panels and built-in desk. But the room felt dark, and the ceiling panels were sagging.

Although the width of the stairway walls didn't change, new wood treads and a wider extension at the bottom of the space help make it feel both brighter and less confining.

The teahouse is lit by Isamu Noguchi’s classic mid-century Akari 1AS lamp.

The couple added the wainscot, installed by Seamus, and painted in Farrow & Ball Red Earth to continue the “color story” from the breakfast room. The white oak built-in has much needed storage behind the cane cabinet fronts and display. The Caitlin couch by Everygirl for Interior Define sits atop a vintage checkered rug with an Anthropologie coffee table and Hay Paper Shade overhead.

The breakfast room’s storage was purposefully designed for the children’s belongings. “We made them very deep cabinets, so all the toys can live in there, and that's amazing,” says Kara.

The new powder room has Blackthorn wallpaper from Morris & Co, which was chosen for how its green and pink palette “bridges” the other spaces in the home, says Kara. Beckham Double Sconces from Visual Comfort flank a Tufa Modern Mirror from Scout and Nimble, over a marble sink.

“I wanted you to come into a place that was inviting, but with a muted warmth,” says Kara of the decision to immerse the dining room in Farrow & Ball’s Green Smoke, including walls, ceiling, cabinetry, and fireplace, the latter with a relocated mantel. The table is a 17th C. Spanish Walnut Trestle Rectangular Dining Table via Restoration Hardware, surrounded by Ceremonie Green Mohair dining chairs by Athena Calderone, from Crate&Barrel. The Tambor Buffet, beneath windows that Seamus relocated from elsewhere in the house, is from Anthropologie.

The original chimney breast runs from the kitchen and up through one of the first floor bedrooms. Original timber beams and restored brickwork add to the rustic charm of the space.

The countertops and hearthstones are crafted from upcycled slate from old snooker tables that were sourced by Miriam.
