Custom Arcadia windows wrap around the spacious sitting area, framing sweeping views of the nearby oak, pine, birch, and cherry trees. Sliding glass doors open up to the adjacent terrace, extending the living spaces outdoors.

Water, sewer pipes, and electrical cables all run under the external staircase in an enclosure, leaving the exterior as clean as can be.

Most materials were sourced from local hardware stores, with all of the wood siding coming from a nearby mill. The high-performance windows were a major exception, coming from Toronto, and the cabinetry, which came from Ikea.

“We wanted to keep the original custom mahogany cabinets,” shares Christa. “I had a carpenter build matching base cabinets to extend the kitchen another 40 inches. We put in a paneled refrigerator, pull-out pantry, and splurged on gorgeous Gaggenau speed ovens and cooktop.”
