They retained the two-sided fireplace, rebuilt for added structural support, and used to separate the living room and dining area.

A geometric, peach-colored tile in the master bathroom adds a joyful jolt to the home. The walnut cabinetry is an ode to the home's mid-century roots.

The open-plan kitchen-dining-and-living area is located on the first level, where a narrow staircase leads to the second level, where the bedrooms are situated.

The upholstered wall was crafted by Casamento. The daybed is from Houtlander, featuring custom cushions by Casamento.

“The transparency plays with the idea of impermanence, as the cabin reflects the shadows of the forest and their movements during the day on its skin,” explains architect Guillermo Acuña.

Annemie Lathouwers grew up in a forested enclave on the outskirts of Antwerp, Belgium. A nature preserve filled with stately pines, the area lured her back when she and her husband, David D’Hulst, began thinking about trading their house in the city for greener surroundings.

Several doors provide an entrance through the private outdoors space.

With the addition of a curtain, a niche above the hallway will become a guest sleeping area. The chair is from IKEA.

The view down from the bathroom window provides a closer look at the white and green pendants that Annemie made from glass found at a flea market. The doors and windows were crafted by carpenter Peeters Schrijnwerkerij, the side tables are custom, and the chair is a vintage find.

“Watching the sunrise and moonrise from the living room is gobsmacking,” says James.

The drop ceiling was removed to make the kitchen feel larger, and Troy RLM kitchen lights were installed above it.

“The terraced countertops accommodate a tight space between the entry and window, providing additional counter space for the kitchen, and storage beneath on two sides,” says Jones.
