The kitchen counter’s new pink tiles bring an element of playfulness to the scheme. Square floor tiles were also used to define the kitchen from the dining-and-living area.

Lamps and vintage furniture that the homeowner and his partner collected on their travels adorn the home. Jun introduced an Enigma 425 pendant lamp from Louis Poulsen as a statement piece over the living space.

The casual dining area has custom banquette seating by H&A Upholstery, with Moller Model 77 Side Chairs by J.L.Møllers Møbelfabrik from Design within Reach and an Arundel Pendant by In Common With.

The backsplash is covered in G120 Lemon Ice tile by Heath Ceramics.

Suspended bridges lead to a dreamy, glass-walled tree house with a butterfly tin roof. It’s one of three structures that make up the wellness-oriented compound Snow, which is rented out for retreats, special occasions, and workshops (“but not for bachelorette parties,” notes Bob).

“It has a public and private feel, which we like.” A French blue table designed by David adds color to the dining area. “It was important to us to have unexpected and whimsical elements in the house,” says Mark. “We didn’t want it to be too serious.”

Much of the original furniture remains in the home, including wooden bookshelves set into concrete room dividers. “I find the way he resolved the corners with obtuse angles quite beautiful,” writes Maria. “He used the same detail for both the table and the bookcase. The photographers were drawn to the materials in addition to the form of the furnishings. “I love all the materials inside the house, especially those that were used by Riva to create the furniture,” says Francesco Paleari, who with Allegra Martin shot the apartment for the first time in decades for the book.

A skylight was added to bring in more light, and the existing ceilings painted Benjamin Moore ‘Black Tar’ for contrast. The island pendant is the Schoolhouse Ray 17” Pendant and the stools are the Artek Aalto High Chair K65.

Engelsman gave the kitchen an L-shaped layout with a large island workspace at the center, and pushed the tall storage into the garage, to create a wide circulation space to access the dining room and backyard.

Original tile in the bathrooms remains, including this reddish-burnt orange tile in the master bathroom.
