Materiality is key to its integration into the environment and the landscape. The scale and volumetric language of the building is generous, while being closely tied to an economy of space, material and structure.

In this house in downtown Miami, lightweight, shuttered Western red cedar doors wrap the front porch to provide privacy and protection from the weather but support natural ventilation, which is important in biophilic design. The unstained wood will age naturally.

The home's modern exterior features glass, wood, and concrete.

The home's exterior is made up of smooth white stucco, exposed board-formed concrete, clear impact resistant glass with a dark bronze Kynar finish, and Brazilian Cumaru wood accents naturally resistant to South Florida's extreme environment.

609 is a LEED certified home. The project a renovation of a 8,000 square foot home built originally built in 1991.
